Announcements
Voters' Assembly: A special voters' meeting is planned for Sunday, March 21, immediately following church. The issue discussed revolves around a disciplinary issue with one of our members. We hope that the issue will be resolved before that time and the meeting will not be necessary. The elders and Pastor appreciate your prayer regarding this.
Spring Forward! Daylight savings time begins this weekend. Set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night!
Sign up to purchase an Easter lily to adorn our chancel on Easter morning. The cost is $8.00 per plant. You may take the plant home after the Easter services. Sign up deadline is next Sunday, March 14.
Special Lenten Guests: Wednesday, March 3 we welcome Pastor David Werly. Wednesday, March 17 we welcome a special guest from Jews for Jesus, to present Christ in the Passover. Please invite your friends, and pray for these events.
Vacation Bible School: We are well into the planning stages of our 2010 Vacation Bible School! We were awarded a wonderful prize from Concordia Publishing House… they are providing us with free Concordia materials for this year’s VBS. (We will still need to purchase some things, such as snacks and a big tent.) Lisa Thompson is our director again this year, so if you are interested in helping, please let her know (273-4927). VBS is scheduled for June 28 – July 2.
Feed My Starving Children initial planning meeting Thursday, March 11, 7:00p.m. If you have any interest in participating in any aspect of feed my starving children please come to this initial meeting. At this meeting we will break down the various tasks and people that we will need to carry out the event. This planning meeting is open to everyone, and we mean everyone, your friends, and neighbors, and colleagues. The meeting should last about 90 minutes.
The Ladies Candlelight Supper will be held here at Trinity on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. The theme of the program is “Ministry Through Music.” Sallie Fuller, the guest speaker and vocalist, will be accompanied by a second vocalist, a pianist and a cellist. We are excited about the program and anticipate the evening to be a very worshipful experience. Sign up now to hostess a table or bring a dish to pass. If you have not previously hosted a table, why not consider doing it this year -- it is very rewarding. Call Peg Burlew (229-6602) or Linda Terry (227-1977) if you have any questions.
Trinity is seeking substitute teachers for both the after-school program and the preschool program. If you are willing to substitute or know someone who might be, please speak to Ray Wheaton or Hope Allnatt. Sadly we must already talk about saying goodbye to Ruth Schian who will be leaving us this summer to return to the Seminary with her husband Vicar Aaron Schian. At this time it looks as though we will need to replace her for both our preschool and after-school programs. If you have anyone in mind that might serve either or both programs, please direct them to the church office (607-273-9017).
National Youth Gathering- In July, two members of our high school youth group will be traveling to New Orleans, LA with ten other students from churches in our circuit and the Feuerbachs as chaperones. The group will be attending the LCMS National Youth Gathering that is held every three years and attracts over 25,000 Lutheran high school students from across the country. While there, youth will participate in workshops, Bible studies, praise and worship events, and service projects. The theme for the 2010 Gathering is "We Believe", and information about the Gathering can be found online at www.lcmsgathering.com. This spring, we will be working to raise funds for the four members of our congregation attending the Gathering through events such as Parents' Night Out, Easter breakfast, "Saturday Service Days" and more. We are trying to raise around $1000 per participant. We appreciate your prayers and financial support as we prepare for our trip. If you would like to support us financially, please prayerfully consider the breakdown of costs and see if you would like to contribute toward one participant's trip. All prayers and financial support are greatly appreciated. Checks can be written to “Trinity” with a memo for “Youth Gathering.”
$10 - one meal for one participant
$30 - one participant's food for one day
$150 - one participant's total food expenses

Feed My Starving Children: We have begun collecting financial support for our big mission project, Feed My Starving Children. This project is tentatively scheduled for September 10-11 at Trinity. If you would like to make a contribution, write the check to Trinity Lutheran Church, and add a memo “Feed My Starving Children.” If you make a contribution directly to FMSC, please reference our event number so we will get credit for your support: Event #1009-40. For more information about the project, pick up a gold flyer in the narthex.
Thrivent helping you help Haiti: A Million Dollar Challenge. Thrivent Financial Luthers will add $1 to every $2, up to a total Thrivent contribution of $1 million when their members donate to Lutheran World Relief, LCMS World Relief, ELCA or WELS relief organizations. To donate, go to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, then click on “Helping Haiti”.
Men's Prayer Breakfast Saturday: The men have begun a new video study on creation. The study is entitled "Out of Nothing: The Word, Creation and Faith." It includes a thorough explanation of the many views held by Christians and non-Christians about the origin of the earth in the universe. It also provides some compelling evidence to reconsider evolution, and instead consider a young earth and the creation account as recorded in Genesis. It helps us see the ramifications of compromising faith by embracing another faith. For more information, click the picture on the left. This is a great time to begin this study and fellowship if you have not already participated. Typically the schedule is 8 to 8:45 a.m. breakfast and fellowship; 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. the study; 9:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prayers, (cleanup follows). Free will offerings are typically taken to offset the food, but right now the balance is healthy!
Every Thursday, Trinity’s Lutheran Student Fellowship hosts a Bible study on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm. Currently they are using the DVD series “The Truth Project” that looks at areas of philosophy, ethics, theology, history, anthropology, science, sociology, the state, and labor. All college age students are welcome! Contact Sue (sts28 @cornell.edu) for more information.
Easter Breakfast - The Youth Group will be serving the congregation our annual Easter breakfast between services on Easter Sunday. Stay tuned for updates and to RSVP! As we plan, we are looking for donations of supplies. The following items are needed: store-brand pancake mix, breakfast sausage links, large cans of fruit cocktail, tubs of butter or margarine, eggs, shredded wheat cereal, and jelly beans. If you would like to donate an item or money to purchase an item, please give your donation to John or Becky Feuerbach. Thanks in advance for your donations!
Spring Luncheon and Quilt Auction to benefit Pioneer Camp Scholarships, at Salem Lutheran Church in Buffalo, on Saturday, May 15. At this point they are looking for anyone willing to contribute one or more quilts for this exciting project. The tentative deadline for all quilts is April 19. There will also be a Chinese auction of theme baskets if anyone is willing to create one for their fundraiser. If you have questions, contact Norrine Nagel (716) 826-6745 or njnagell8@verizon.net.
Email Notification List: We are planning to start a group list for email notification of special events. If you would like to be included on this list, please fill in the following form or send you name and email address to secretary@trinityithaca.org.
Volunteers are needed to serve as ushers on non-communion Sundays. Responsibilities include arriving a little early to hand out bulletins as folks enter the Sanctuary, collecting the offering, counting the number of people in church (usually accomplished during the offering collection), and tidying the pews after worship. More details are available from an Elder or in the binder under the Trinity bulletin board in the narthex. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.
Other opportunities to serve include hosting coffee hour (see the folder in the narthex for details), reading the Scripture lessons (contact Clif Pollock or the church office to volunteer), and purchasing flowers for the altar (sign up sheet near kitchen door).
If you would like to purchase flowers for the altar: please sign up on the big sheet next to the drinking fountain. You can request a dedication on the chart or by contacting the church office at tlc@trinityithaca.org. The price is $20.00 per arrangement, and you pay by making a special offering in this amount. Please clearly mark your donation with your name and memo “flowers.” You may take the arrangement home with you after the worship service, but please return the vase to the kitchen when you are finished with the flowers, as they get reused.
