Feed My Starving T-shirt phenomena!  Many people in the Ithaca community have admired our T-shirts, and friends who have volunteered to help at our packing event have expressed in interest in purchasing one.  So if we can get an order of 36 shirts, we will order more!  A sign-up sheet to order shirts is in the narthex.  They are available in 8 sizes (see sign-up sheet), and cost $5.55/shirt.  If you or your friends would like one, please sign up ASAP!

FMSC T-shirt dates!  For visibility for our Packing Event we are encouraging anyone with a FMSC T-shirt to wear it around town on the following dates:  August 1, September 1, September 6 (Labor Day), and September 10 & 11 (our packing dates).

Vacation Bible School was a huge success! We were blessed with over 150 children from Ithaca and beyond!  We thank Lisa Thompson for her skillful directing of this enormous event!  We thank all the helpers, teachers, preparers, cleaners, and everyone who helped make it such a success!

Trinity Tidings deadline for August/September newsletter is fast approaching.  If you have any summer news to share or upcoming fall events, please e-mail your articles to newsletter@trinityithaca.org by July 25.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is hosting a summer celebration at Christ Lutheran Church in Interlaken on Saturday, August 7th.  This summer outing will begin with a Bible Study based on Isaiah 52:7 and include Communion.  Lunch will be served down the street from the church at O’Malley’s Restaurant for $13.00 (including tax and gratuity) which includes lunch of your choice from their menu and a nice view of the lake.  After lunch the LWML (women) will hold a short business meeting, including election of officers, and LLL (men) will discuss their ministry through the annual booth at the NY State Fair.  For further information see the bulletin board and/or call Martha Clark 227-2681.

Christy’s Corner:  Christy Dendis’ shop is open for the new season.  The gift shop is restocked and she has added some new items this year.  She also hopes to have some vegetables available.  Everyone is welcome to come out and visit!  Feel free to call ahead if you are looking for something specific.  Hours are 11 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.  Directions are posted in the narthex.  (Don’t worry about the road repairs near her house; the detour is short and well marked!)

New York State Fair Booth for LLL - Trinity will host the Lutheran Booth at the New York State Fair on Friday, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. so mark your calendar!  This is a wonderful outreach and a lot of fun.  A limited number of free tickets are available to booth workers.  A sign-up sheet is in the narthex.  See Henry Radke (our coordinator) or Nancy Gifft if you have questions.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast:  The men have begun a new video study on creation.  The study is entitled "Out of Nothing: The Word, Creation and Faith."  It includes a thorough explanation of the many views held by Christians and non-Christians about the origin of the earth in the universe.  It also provides some compelling evidence to reconsider evolution, and instead consider a young earth and the creation account as recorded in Genesis.  It helps us see the ramifications of compromising faith by embracing another faith.  For more information, click the picture on the left. This is a great time to begin this study and fellowship if you have not already participated.  Typically the schedule is 8 to 8:45 a.m. breakfast and fellowship; 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. the study; 9:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prayers, (cleanup follows).  Free will offerings are typically taken to offset the food, but right now the balance is healthy!

Garage Giveaway for International students:  There will be a garage Giveaway organized by International Students, Inc. on Saturday, August 28th to help new international students furnish their apartments.  Volunteers are needed to store items for the event in their garage or barn and to help on the day of the event in various capacities.  Donations are also needed.  Preferably these would be delivered to the event site (First Congregational Church, 309 Highland Road) the day of the event, between 8 am and 10 am, but could be picked up and stored beginning August 1st.  Donations needed include:  furniture (beds, couches, desks, dressers, tables and chairs, etc.), kitchen and other household items, winter coats, boots, etc., and children’s items (car seats, high chairs, etc.)  No clothes, old computers, books, or miscellaneous garage sale stuff.  If you are interested in volunteering or donating, contact David Larson at dlarson778@roadrunner.com (phone: 200-4080).

Fred Moore is coming again to provide entertainment and a bit of history.  Sunday, October 3, at 4:00 in the afternoon Fred will perform his Western Sing-along!  There will be a dinner following the program.  Mark your calendar now!

Golden Agers Retreat at Camp Pioneer:  September 20-23, the theme is “What are You Doing Here?”  That was the question some of the self-righteous religious leaders asked when they saw Jesus “eating and drinking with ‘sinners.’ ” (Matthew 9:13) and that’s also the question we’ll be asking of people like Jonah, Daniel, Davis, Noah, Paul, Peter, etc. and of ourselves in similar situations.  Cost is $60 for the day, or $170 if you stay over night.  For more details, see flyer in the narthex or contact Pioneer Camp:  716-549-1420; info@pioneercamp.org; www.pioneercamp.org.

Camp SonRise (Lutheran Ministries in Pottersville NY) is offering several summer camps.  See the flyers on the Church at Large bulletin board in the narthex for more information.

Travel and learn with Concordia College, Bronxville, New York – In the Footsteps of St. Paul. Travel to Greece and Turkey (October 19-29).  For more information call Rev. Greg Dwyer at 914-337-9300, x2198.

Email Notification List: We are planning to start a group list for email notification of special events. If you would like to be included on this list, please fill in the following form or send you name and email address to secretary@trinityithaca.org.

Volunteers are needed to serve as ushers on non-communion Sundays.  Responsibilities include arriving a little early to hand out bulletins as folks enter the Sanctuary, collecting the offering, counting the number of people in church (usually accomplished during the offering collection), and tidying the pews after worship.  More details are available from an Elder or in the binder under the Trinity bulletin board in the narthex.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.

Other opportunities to serve include hosting coffee hour (see the folder in the narthex for details), reading the Scripture lessons (contact Clif Pollock or the church office to volunteer), and purchasing flowers for the altar (sign up sheet near kitchen door).

If you would like to purchase flowers for the altar: please sign up on the big sheet next to the drinking fountain.  You can request a dedication on the chart or by contacting the church office at tlc@trinityithaca.org.  The price is $20.00 per arrangement, and you pay by making a special offering in this amount. Please clearly mark your donation with your name and memo “flowers.”  You may take the arrangement home with you after the worship service, but please return the vase to the kitchen when you are finished with the flowers, as they get reused.
